DEBORAH WILLIAMS

PRESIDENT

Deborah is a UCSB Class of 2020 graduate with a B.A. in Political Science, with an emphasis in Political Theory. Leaving behind the pre-law and advocacy organizations she dedicated her undergrad career to, Deborah is currently in her gap year applying for law school and plans to attend next fall. She has always had a desire to help others within a legal capacity, and endeavors to pursue a career in family law, specializing in juvenile law, domestic and familial mediation. She is a firm believer of equipping others with the necessary tools for illuminating the path to justice for each individual’s situation.

Alia is a rising senior at UCSB double majoring in Global Studies & Philosophy, with an emphasis in Ethics & Public Policy. She currently serves as the UCSB Undergraduate Representative on the Systemwide Title IX Student Advisory Board & the External Vice President of Statewide Affairs for ASUCSB. After graduation she plans to work for nonprofits & will likely attend law school.

VINCE FELICIANO

Vince is a third-year UCSB student majoring in Sociology, Philosophy, and Asian American Studies. He/They currently leads UCSB Pan Asian Network and interns for the UC Davis Bulosan Center for Filipinx Studies, and previously worked as an intern at the Santa Clara County Office of Gender-Based Violence Prevention. Vince plans to attend graduate school after finishing his/their undergraduate education. He is/They are passionate about examining and bringing to light how history, law, and sociocultural ideologies directly impact marginalized communities’ lived experiences based on their social positions and identities.

EMILY MALDONADO-ALONSO

Emily is currently a Political Science Major at SBCC. As a first generation student, she is passionate about helping and advocating for other minorities which is why SBCC’s SASA meetings are held in our Center for Equity and Social Justice which allows a space on campus for students to freely and safely express themselves as well as allows them to have their voices heard.

Julie is a senior Biological Science major at UCSC and plans to attend Veterinary school after completing her undergraduate career at UCSC. She served as the SASA Treasurer during her time spent at SBCC, while volunteering at the local rabbit shelter (BUNS) and wildlife rehabilitation center (SBWCN). She is passionate about social justice and equality for minorities, especially focusing on women, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community.

MINA NUR BASMACI

Mina is a third-year undergraduate at UCSB, where she is majoring in English and Religious Studies with a minor in Art History. She is interested in modeling community-based, restorative justice practices in her position as community coordinator. Mina is also involved in Phi Alpha Delta and the Associated Students Human Rights Board, and hopes to become a lawyer engaged in prison reform in the future.

Philippa is a third-year UCSB undergraduate student majoring in Political Science with an emphasis in Comparative Politics and a minor in Feminist Studies. She currently serves as the UC SHIP Undergraduate Representative in UCSB’s Students for Reproductive Justice and the UCSB UC SHIP Advisory Board. She plans to attend law school and pursue a career working to combat inequalities and promote social justice in her community, with a focus on gender equity and reproductive justice.

Emily is a UCSB alumna ’19 and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy—with an emphasis in ethics & public policy—and Sociology. She is currently interning at the California State Capitol and sits on the Board of Directors for Momentum United during her gap year before law school. Emily wants to dedicate her career to ensuring every individual has the equitable and sustainable means access to education, healthcare, and opportunities to succeed by addressing issues that affect women, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.

PEYTON CHAMBERS

Peyton Chambers is a third-year Sociology major who plans to work with a social Justice based non-profit after graduating from UCSB. She has always been very passionate about fighting for equality and justice for marginalized communities, especially for women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people of color. Peyton is also the Publicity Director for Students for Reproductive Justice, a member-organization of the UCSB Associated Students Human Rights Board. Outside of UCSB, Peyton has worked with 3 different non-profits as an intern, Pionero Philanthropy, ReflectUS, and the Feminist Majority Foundation.

BEN NOAH

Ben is a economics Ph.D. student at UCSB. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Oregon and worked in health services research before starting the Ph.D. program. His current research focuses on the economic impact of mental illness and trauma; specifically during development.
